1. Request the report
Request your Identity History Summary from the FBI with your fingerprints, directly or through an FBI-approved channeler. When you order, make sure the version you get can be apostilled.
Guide · Ecuador visa
Ecuador residency and retirement visas usually ask for a criminal record certificate from your home country, apostilled and translated into Spanish. If you are coming from the US, that is usually the FBI Identity History Summary or a state background check. This guide sums up the process in four steps.
Order matters: if you translate before the apostille, you may have to redo the translation.
Request your Identity History Summary from the FBI with your fingerprints, directly or through an FBI-approved channeler. When you order, make sure the version you get can be apostilled.
The FBI report is a federal document, so it is apostilled by the US Department of State. A state background check is apostilled by that state's Secretary of State.
Send us a scan of the report and its apostille. A translator accredited by Ecuador's Judicial Council translates both and signs the translation.
Attach the apostilled original and the translation to your application, as the immigration authority requires.
Requirements change and usually ask for a recent certificate. Before you order it, check the official list for your visa to see how old it may be, so you do not have to get it twice.
It depends on your visa type. Many applicants use the FBI report because it covers the whole country; others file the check from the state where they lived. If you are not sure which one you need, send us your requirements list and we will help you review it.
